We will explore sensory support vs sensory overwhelm & what you need to feel more in connection & soothed in your body.
As someone who has felt sensory overwhelm my whole life now that I am beginning to understand my own mind & body more I have started to figure out:
1. what my own sensory support needs are &
2. how to take care of my body, mind & heart to lessen overwhelm of sensory overload
As a person who feels very things very deeply, I’ve always made art to try to understand & process what’s going on inside my body and outside in the world.
Art has helped me survive & create spaces where I can delve into overwhelm, chaos, panic, grief & racing thoughts from the loud world.
Writing, collaging, singing, moving my body have consistently been tools to help me cope to understand overwhelm in my body
The Art can help us hold & process what’s going on in our bodies. We don’t have to hold it alone.
As autistic people we feel & take in so much stimulation through our senses & we need to learn to how to understand ourselves, how our particular brain works & then have outlets to process & release.
Neurodivergence is so beautiful & we deserve space to learn how to understand ourselves more deeply & take care of bodies, which is something most of us were not taught how to do
